In this study, the proteins contained in royal jelly (RJ) produced by Africanized honeybees and European honeybees (Apis mellifera) haven been analyzed in detail and compared using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, and the N-terminal amino acid sequence of each spot has been determined. Most spots were assigned to major royal jelly proteins (MRJPs). Remarkable differences were found in the heterogeneity of the MRJPs, in particular MRJP3, in terms of molecular weights and isoelectric points between the two species of RJ. Furthermore, during the determination of the N-terminal amino acid sequence of each spot, for the first time, MRJP4 protein has been identified, the existence of which had been only implied by cloning of its cDNA sequence. The presence of heterogeneous bands of glucose oxidase was also identified. Thus, the results suggest that two-dimensional gel electrophoresis provides a suitable method for the qualitative analysis of the proteins contained in RJ derived from different honeybee species. 相似文献

An 11-year-old male toy poodle with neurological symptoms was diagnosed with a macroscopic pituitary tumor, which produced adrenocorticotropic hormone. Radiation therapy with a linear accelerator was performed for the pituitary tumor, and resulted in good local tumor control. However, serum endogenous adrenocorticotropic hormone concentrations were uncontrollable even after the tumor disappeared. Abdominal computed tomography revealed splenic masses, and splenectomy was performed. Histopathological examination of the surgical specimen showed tumor cells with eosinophilic and finely granular cytoplasm suggestive of endocrine origin. Since these cells were positive for adrenocorticotropic hormone, the case was diagnosed as a pituitary carcinoma with distant metastasis. Necropsy revealed multiple metastases to the abdominal organs. This is the first case report describing canine pituitary carcinoma with distant metastasis. 相似文献

A unique lipoprotein profile was found in the plasma of cultured Japanese eel,Anguilla japonica which accumulated more lipid in its muscle than in its liver. The plasma lipoprotein level of Japanese eels was in excess of 54 mg ml1, a concentration considered to be hyperlipoproteinemic in relation to other teleosts. The plasma lipoproteins consisted of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL, density (d)<1.006 g ml1) low density lipoprotein (LDL, 1.0061), high density lipoprotein 2 (HDL2, 1.0851), and HDL3 (1.1001). VLDL, but not HDL, was the main component in the plasma of Japanese eels, unlike most teleosts where HDL is the main component. An additional lipoprotein, vitellogenin (1.2101), was induced by the injection of estradiol-17ß (E2), but VLDL was the main plasma component even in the E2-treated eels. VLDL was a triacylglycerol (TG)-rich lipoprotein and possessed two apolipoprotein (apo) B-like proteins of molecular weights (Mr) 260K and 230K as main components.LDL, HDL2, and HDL3 were revealed to consist of heterogeneous components by a density gradient ultracentrifugation. LDL was separated into three subclasses of LDL1 (1.0301), LDL2 (1.0431), and LDL3 (1.0671). LDL1 with apo B-like protein of Mr 230K was a TG-rich lipoprotein, while both LDL2 and LDL3 were cholesterol ester-rich lipoproteins with apo A-I-and A-II-like proteins of Mr 25K and 14K. The particle sizes of HDL2 and HDL3 subclasses differed, although all of HDL2 and HDL3 subclasses possessed apo A-I-and A-II-like proteins of Mr 25K and 14K as main components. ABSTRACT: Contents of 4-hydroxy-2 E -hexenal (HHE), hepatotoxic aldehydes, in smoked fish meat products (smoked salmon and fish meat sausage) were analyzed. Large differences in these contents between the different samples were observed. Very low levels of HHE were detected in fish meat sausage samples. However, a high level of HHE was observed in one batch of smoked salmon. Changes of HHE contents in yellowtail meat containing cherry and sugi wood vinegar stored at 0°C were also analyzed for 7 days. Malonaldehyde (MA) was also analyzed in these samples as an index of the lipid peroxidation level. After 3 or 7 days of storage, HHE contents in both wood vinegar-added samples were significantly higher, but MA contents were significantly lower than those of the control. 相似文献

A growth model for the endangered cyprinid fish Tribolodon nakamurai was derived following otolith analyses of 16 wild and 53 reared specimens. The asteriscus was the most appropriate to measure size among three otolith elements, and its height OH mm was used as size index of otolith. Standard length L cm was best back-calculated using the Gompertz model, L = 70.0·exp[–exp{−0.553 (OH – 2.73)}]. Translucent zones on the lapilli, analyzed from 5-year-old-reared fish, were regarded as winter slow-growing zones. The ages of 10 wild specimens of 37.0–48.1 cm standard length were calculated as 7–10 years by counting the translucent zones on the lapilli. Age t was best back-calculated using the allometry model, t = 1.33· OH 1.37 . The growth trajectory of T. nakamurai followed a slender S curve, three typical growth models, von Bertalanffy, Logistic and Gompertz, and Richards' model, which is a general formula of the above three, being fitted using the maximum likelihood method. The Gompertz model, Lt = 60.2·exp[–exp{−0.258( t − 4.68)}], was found by Akaike's information criterion (AIC) to be the statistically most acceptable growth model. 相似文献

The present study was conducted to evaluate the benefits of indeterminate growth habit in breeding to improve yield potential of Japanese soybean varieties, which exclusively have determinate growth habit. Two populations of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from crosses between determinate Japanese cultivars and indeterminate US cultivars were grown in Akita and Kyoto, and seed weight per plant (SW) and its components were compared between indeterminate and determinate RILs. The difference of SW between the two growth habits in RILs varied depending on maturation time. The SW of early indeterminate lines was significantly higher than that of early determinate ones in Akita, but not in Kyoto. Among yield components, the number of seeds per pod was constantly larger in indeterminate lines than that in determinate ones irrespective of maturation time. The number of seeds per plant and the number of pods per plant of the indeterminate lines were greater than those of the determinate lines in early maturation in Akita. These results suggest that the indeterminate growth habit is an advantageous characteristic in breeding for high yield of early maturing soybean varieties in the Tohoku region. 相似文献

The carboxylesterase cauxin is a major urinary protein in cats that is also found in seminal fluid (SF). This study investigated cauxin in feline SF including biochemical features, concentration, distribution and gene expression in epididymal tissue, and its reaction with acylglycerol substrates.Monomeric, dimeric, and/or multimeric forms of cauxin carrying N-glycosylations were detected on Western blots of feline SF but most were monomeric. Cauxin concentrations were markedly lower in SF (0.042 ± 0.020 mg/mL) than in urine (∼0.5 mg/mL) and cauxin gene expression was 60-fold lower in the epididymis than in the kidney. Immunohistochemical examination localised cauxin within the stereocilia and cytoplasm of epithelial cells lining the caput and corpus epididymis. Cauxin-positive spermatozoa were detected in the lumen of the cauda epididymis but not in the cytoplasm of the epithelial cell lining. Using an in vitro assay, cauxin hydrolysed saturated 1-mono- but not di- and tri-acylglycerols. The results suggest that cauxin secreted from the caput and corpus epididymis acts as an esterase on lipid within feline SF. 相似文献

Echinococcus multilocularis is a fatal zoonotic parasite in the Northern Hemisphere. Recently, it has become endemic in many countries in Asia, especially in the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. The increasing threat of public health due to alveolar echinococcosis has compelled researches for sensitive diagnosis and effective control. This paper reviews on the epidemiology, diagnosis and control of echinococcosis specifically in Japan. International collaborative responses by researchers and government initiatives such as mandatory reporting system for veterinarians who diagnose echinococcosis in dogs are presented. Successful control measures in Japan using anthelmintic fortified baits for foxes are described. Assessment of prevalence rates during control campaigns is analyzed favoring the use of intravital diagnosis rather than the traditional necropsy method from hunting or trapping activities of wild foxes. The novel concept of “endogenous development” by local resident volunteers towards sustainable control of echinococcosis is stressed. 相似文献
